The continent of Antarctica is a place like no other in the world with its stark beauty and brutal climate and terrain. This continent is the only one that has no seen a single war. This is hard to believe when you realize that it is larger than Europe and America combined. It is true that many men have died here, but these deaths were do to the brutal conditions on the continent. The weather is so cold that virtually no germs can survive here.

Unlike other landmasses on the globe, Antarctica is as beautiful as it is brutal. Every other continent has spilled the blood of man through war. However, even though Antarctica encompasses a larger area than the United States and Europe together, violent deaths are more common that those by natural causes, as the temperatures are too low to accommodate most germs.

Modern Antarctica is a study of contrasts when one considers the opposing politics that come together to work peacefully in comfortable enclosures that are a few inches from a -100-degree environment that would literally freeze them in seconds. The people of Antarctica house the biggest appetites, garnishing up to four whole meals in a single day without a single spec of weight gain. The cold eats the calories faster than any exercise or diet could ever possible do.

During the summer months, Antarctica is bathed in endless sunlight, which gives way to what is known as the "big eye", an insomnia condition that plagues most residents, as they struggle to sleep in the bright light of day. The residents of Antarctica boast that they are members of the "300 Degree Club," which is a very exclusive club. Even though Antarctica has the cheapest bars in the world on the South Pole, where no matter what your drinking be it top shelf or simple beer, it's all the same price. But a single night of drinking can be a massive bill. The nights do not simply end in a night, they begin in April and come to a close in September.

The heartland of Antarctica is blanketed with a moving cap of ice that is 9,000 feet thick; however, geologists believe that there may be sufficient coal, natural gas, and oil to supply the planet within it. Lacking most laws, ones that it does have is quite peculiar, not a single fugitive could be arrested. If capable of surviving such harsh environments and temperatures a criminal would have massive valleys and mountain ranges to hide in.

Even though Antarctica lacks a legal system, it enjoys the smallest incidence of crime than any other continent. If serious crimes have occurred there, such as murders, no one has ever been charged or prosecuted for them. There are no statutes, nor are there treaties concerning extradition, so that a murderous felon could be brought to justice anywhere on Antarctica.

Ten flags from different countries are unfurled over the continent; however, not a single square foot of this real estate is claimed by any. There has never been any attempts to form permanent colonies on the primitive lands of this continent. However, when compared to any other location in the world, the most complicated and technology advanced equipment is located here. There are even computers at the South Pole.

The mostly short-term residents have a per capita IQ that is the largest on the planet. There is no other place on Earth were more people have a university degree than a high school diploma. Plus, there is more scientific talent here than you would find at any university. In addition to all this brain power, there is more peaceful research done here than in any capital in the world. The detonation of nuclear warheads is expressly forbidden on the continent, which makes it the only land mass on the planet to specifically prohibit such activity.

The absolute strictest laws on the planet, concerning the environment, are applied to Antarctica. A century ago the land and sea were bloody from the slaughter done by seal and whale hunters; today a special license is required before any animal life is killed. Today's Antarctica has become a the playground for pure scientific research, and the scientists involved work very hard to keep it in a pristine condition.
