Owning your own home means a lot of creativity can be utilized in beautifying your home. You also more than likely think that you can pretty much do whatever you want since you own the property. Well, that might not always hold true with certain projects and you may need to acquire garden planning permission to do certain things.

It is vitally important for you to know whether or not the garden plans you have need to be given the OK from local authorities in the area that you live in. If you are not quite certain of what the restraints might be if there are any, you should contact your local city planning department. Remember also that these officials are probably overloaded with work so do not be surprised if it takes them a while to get back to you with the information that you need.

If you find no restrictions and you do not have to have garden planning permission, you should then consider the fact that what you might be planning could affect others in your neighborhood. For instance if you are planning on putting up flood lights, make sure that you ask your neighbors if they will mind this, because the lights might shine right into their bedroom. Another thing you should talk to your neighbors about is whether or not what you are building is going to hamper any view that they might have.

If you think that you do not need permission for putting up a fence or even a gate. You could be wrong again. Believe it or not there are some towns and cities that might have special regulations with regards to gates and fences.

You might even have to get permission to build a fence on your land even if you live near a highway, however; growing bushes, trees and hedges generally do not need permission.

If your project gives way to any type of vehicle like a carport or a driveway, you will more than likely have to get garden planning permission for something like this.

Projects that are pretty much free from requiring any kind of permission would be things like swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, fish ponds, water features, etc.

It is important however; if you have doubts, always check with local authorities first before starting your project.
