Flowers have a universal appeal, and bouquets are common gift items given or received on occasions like weddings or a felicitation get-together. Flowers have a universal appeal, and bouquets are popular gift items given or received on occasions like weddings or a felicitation ceremony. However, one major disadvantage with a bouquet is that the leaves and flowers dry up very soon and the bouquet thus loses all its appeal and charm. One solution is to gift fake flowers that will never wither, but they are a poor substitute for the fresh ones with their unmatchable natural colour and sweet fragrance.

Although bouquets are bound to wilt away sooner or later, some measures can be taken to retain their freshness for some time. Here are a few tips by which you can sustain the vibrancy of your bouquet for a few days.

Firstly, you should ask your florist about the life of the flowers that are being included in the bouquet, particularly because some flowers like lilies and roses stay longer than some other like sunflowers. You have to tell the florist to fill the bouquet with flowers that remain in bloom for a longer time than others.

If you have received a bouquet then you can cut the stems and keep the bouquet in water in a vase. The life of bouquets is slightly prolonged by doing this. If withering has already started, then you can weed out the leaves and flowers that have wilted so that they don't spoil the rest of the bouquet.

You must keep the vase in a position where it receives enough light and air. Flowers wilt soon when they do not receive sufficient air and sunlight, and if you offer them these natural elements, you can be sure that your bouquet will survive for a much longer time. However, the sunlight reaching on the flowers should not be direct as that way the moisture will be lost and they will die quickly.
