We all know the significant of the doorbell in our everyday lives. Thinking a day without the doorbell seems disgusted. Nowadays, doorbell is a very common appliance at everyone's place. This consists of a switch that is mounted on the wall outside the house and the electrical circuit. As the visitor presses the button, the circuit would be complete thereby ringing the bell.

In case the press of the button fails to get a response from the door bell, the homeowner may not receive his mail, electricity bills and even the important guest may have to wait at the door for a longer period. The following lines will throw some light on a few trouble points of the door bells and their solutions.

The first and the foremost step is, to troubleshoot the switch of the door bell. Unfasten the screws that hold the bell switch on the wall. Look for some loose connections. Tighten then, if you find some.

Moving on to the next step, troubleshoot the transformer. Locate the transformer, and inspect and tighten low-voltage wire connections to it. Further, inspect the transformer using a multi- tester. Set the testing appliance to 50-volt AC range. If you find the reading below 2 volts, the transformer is alright and you may need to inspect the chime box.

But, if the transformer's reading is above 2 volts, replace a faulty transformer. For that remove the low-voltage wires. Cut down the power to the doorbell circuit. Remove the outlet-box cover and disconnect the wires from the old transformer, then disconnect it from the box or the box's cover.

For connecting the new transformer into the circuit, its green lead is to be connected to the ground of the circuit and its other two leads to the black and white leads of the circuit respectively. Cover the out let again. In case of a good transformer, the bell box should be properly inspected after removing its cover for all its wiring.

Keeping one probe of the test equipment to the transformer terminal and another to the front or rear terminal which is not working, we check it again with the voltage range at the meter set at 50 volts AC. Even now if the bell does not work the circuit is faulty and must be rewired, or else replace the bell itself for a new one.

Fixing the door bell is just very simple and homeowners can do this by themselves. In case you fail to fix the doorbell, it is better to call in an expert.
